Mountain Laurel & The Trapps

I love the surrounds of the Catskill Area in New York State—particularly the Schwangunk Ridge where Mohonk Mountain House is located and where I grew up. Photographer Steve Aaron’s photos, including this shot of the Trapps and Mountain Laurel, part of the Mohonk preserve, inspired this painting. On Lux Archival with an alcohol wash underpainting using Unisons and Rembrandts mostly, with a few nupastels.
