Hidden in Plain Sight, Solitary Sandpiper
I painted this sweet little Solitary Sandpiper I observed visiting a local creek. He blended in so well with the surroundings I almost didn't see him. I was attracted by that, and the movement of the shallow water as it flowed over the rocky stream bed. I hope to paint other wildlife to draw attention to our need to protect this simple little stream in our community. I used Pastelbord and a mix of soft pastels and a couple of Pitt Pastel Pencils. I started with a dry underpainting, gently rubbed that in then began placing the bird, water, and rocks.
