Qalea (The Fortress

Soft pastel on sanded paper; the reference is from a photo taken on a trip to Muscat, Oman; my wife and I were lucky enough to go as part of a opera touring company performing at the sultan's royal opera house - once in a lifetime! I love the way the ancient fortress seems to be one with the rocks and growing out of them as well; there's a row of these fortresses along the waterfront in the harbor.
