Ajo Alpenglow
I recently took a trip to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in southern Arizona and on the way home from the park the sun was setting on the Ajo Mountains, creating a scene that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. I knew that I wanted to capture the moment in pastel but it seemed too vast, too spectacular to know where to begin. After a lot of sketches and pondering, I decided to focus on the light that was hitting the tops of the saguaros in front of the mountains. That resulted in this painting.
